Undulating Yankai vase hand-thrown from local clay and wood-fired by artisans in Sierra Leone. The wood firing results in surface variation in texture and finish. The makers work together with Aurora Foundation, a non-profit organisation which has been working with the creative and entrepreneurial sector in Sierra Leone for over a decade. Aurora Foundation, in partnership with the Sierra Leone Adult Education Association (SLADEA), has been working with the pottery centre since 2017. With improvements to the facilities and expert-guided pottery training, the pottery centre has become a vibrant contributor to the local creative economy. The pottery centre is located in Waterloo, about a one-hour drive from Freetown.
