Renew invites us to appreciate the material world around us. The group exhibition, curated by Kate Orne of publication Upstate Diary, will highlight the unique ways artists based in Hudson Valley have transformed existing materials. Renew will feature works by Sam Falls, Kat Howard, Kieran Kinsella, Kiva Motnyk and Dana Sherwood. Each piece on display is an expression of creative reuse.
Alongside the exhibition will be a programme of events and workshops.
Sam Falls
Sam Falls’ work draws from photography, painting, and sculpture, using plant life as his subject matter as well as his raw material, and utilising the elements – sunshine and rainfall – to create his work.
Kiva Motnyk
Kiva Motnyk reuses vintage fabrics in colours she creates with natural dye materials from her property. The objects resemble paintings or stained glass, evoking a spiritual experience of the natural landscape.
Dana Sherwood
Dana Sherwood’s work examines the complex and intimate relationship between humans and other animals in an increasingly homogenised ecosystem – one which is threatened by climate change and development.
Kat Howard
Kat Howard is a fibre artist focused on the perception of the female body viewed through the lens of history. She works with raw materials and textures to create her sculptures.
Kieran Kinsella
Kieran Kinsella uses locally salvaged and sourced hardwoods, which he shapes and finishes by hand. Each of his pieces reflects his unique, solitary vision.
